Become Part of the L.A. County Parents and Teachers as Allies Team

 NAMI Los Angeles County Council is hosting a free NAMI Parents and Teachers as Allies Training on Saturday April 9th, 2015, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Parents and Teachers as Allies educates Teachers and School Staff through a panel of trained volunteers on:

  • The latest research on brain disorders in children and  adolescents
  • Signs of early onset mental illness in children and adolescents as seen at home and school
  • Understanding family reactions to mental illness community resources
  • Early intervention and treatment, which lead to better education and  mental health outcomes for students

Team Member Requirements:  

MODERATOR:  A person with background in education such as a teacher, principal, retired school professional, school counselor, etc.

PRESENTER: A person who is a Family-to-Family or  Basics teacher, ideally someone with lived experience of coping with a child with early onset mental illness

PARENT:  A person who testifies about the complex and exhausting realities of parenting a child with mental illness

INDIVIDUAL LIVING WITH  MENTAL  ILLNESS: A person who had symptoms of mental illness as a child or adolescent and is now living well in recovery.
