Membership Dues Change Reminder

Many of you have your membership renewals around the start of the calendar year. The NAMI national board of directors voted to add a Household membership category to the membership structure and raise the dues for existing categories early last year. These changes were effective on July 1, 2017. NAMI South Bay is required to follow the new membership structure. The new membership rates are as follows:

– Household $60. For multiple people at one address.
– Individual $40.
– Open Door $5. Open to anyone experiencing financial constraints.

If there are multiple people at your address who wish to join NAMI you have many options.

  1. Each person may join as an Individual or Open Door member or
  2. One person at the address may join as an Individual or Open Door member or
  3. All people at the address may join as part of one Household membership.

NAMI South Bay will no longer support a “Newsletter Only” membership category because it is not supported by NAMI national. “Newsletter Only” members whose memberships expired July 1, 2017 can rejoin using one of supported membership categories. Those whose memberships expire after July 1, will have their memberships converted to one of the supported categories.

If you are not a member or wish to renew your membership in NAMI South Bay, please See membership renewal form or go to www.nami.org.

June Meeting — Housing, Diversion, and Consolidation

One of the most frequent calls and inquiries to our NAMI South Bay Affiliate is about the availability of housing. Another frequent phone call is about persons with a mental illness being caught up in the criminal justice system. And of course a major area of interest is the effort of NAMI affiliates to have a more effective advocacy by consolidating.

The speaker for our June Monthly meeting will be Brittney Weissman, Executive Director of NAMI Los Angeles County. She will speak about recent efforts on improving the availability of board and cares, diversion of persons with a mental illness from the criminal justice system. and the need for us to advocate for some very promising efforts in these areas. Ms. Weissman spoke at the Board of Supervisors meeting last Tuesday on our behalf on the issue of alternatives to incarceration.

Please come to our June 17 meeting at 7:30 and hear about these efforts and support the recommendations going the Board of Supervisors.

Both the Family Caring and Sharing Support Group for family members and Connections Support Group for persons with a mental illness will start at 6 PM and end at 7:15 PM.
