February Meeting – Peer Resources Center and Peer Work Readiness

Peer Resource Center – Mental Health Advocate

The Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health has established Peer Resource Centers with a variety of services and resources available for persons with a mental illness. The first Peer Resource Center was co-located with the Department of Mental Health headquarters; now some centers are being established in service areas. At the Peer Resource Centers there are support groups and resource information. One of the current groups addresses preparation for work by persons with a mental illness. Lori Kerr will provide information about the Peer Resource Centers and the work readiness groups.

Lori Kerr’s passion is to teach individuals to transition “job ready” from Social Service to Business Service by providing career pathways, guidance, and training to learn or improve upon basic job seeking skills, to understand employer expectations, and to learn life skills needed to move toward self-sufficiency. She has over 20 years’ experience in Career and Workforce Development with Regional Centers, Dept. of Rehabilitation and Social security Administration assisting individuals with disabilities and multiple barriers in returning to the workforce. Please come hear Ms. Kerr share information about Peer Resource Centers and the Work Readiness Support groups for persons with a mental illness.
