NAMI was founded in 1979 by 254 caring people and now has grown to more than 210,000 members in over 1,200 affiliate groups in all 50 States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico , the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa and Guam. NAMI is getting stronger every day. In fact, Worth Magazine recently ranked NAMI in its “Top 100 charities most likely to change the world.”
NAMI South Bay is one of the affiliates of the national and state NAMI. All persons concered about mental illness issues are welcome to participate. NAMI South Bay serves the general area from El Segundo in the north to Palos Verdes in the south and from the Beach Cities on the west to Carson/Wilmington on the east. NAMI South Bay has a regular monthly meeting with a Caring and Sharing Support Group and Speaker Meeting, Family to Family and Familia de Familia Programs, Peer to Peer Program and Connections Program (ongoing support group for persons with a mental illness). NAMI South Bay supports other programs such as NARSAD, dedicated to the service of persons with a mental illness and their families. Also, NAMI South Bay participates in the NAMI Los Angeles County Walk. Please consider joining and participating in NAMI South Bay.
If there is a legal holiday on the third Monday as usually happens in January and February, the meeting is moved to the fourth Monday of the month. At the May, August and December Meetings, There is an opportunity for social networking with other families and persons with a mental illness. In May there is a pasta dinner, in August there is a picnic and in December there is a potluck dinner. The meetings are held at the First Lutheran Church 2900 Carson in Torrance.
